history
The area of Nieuw-Dijk was settled as early as the Neolithic Age, as evidenced by hand axes , tools and other finds found since the end of the 19th century , which are dated to around 2500 to 2000 BC. At the beginning of the 18th century, apart from a few farms, there was hardly anything other than oak and beech forests on the area of today's village. From around 1720, deforestation began for the settlement. By 1835 the number of households had increased to about 95; by 1910 this number doubled and in 1947 there were 255 houses.
The Roman Catholic village church is dedicated to Anthony of Padua . Its foundation stone was laid on September 27, 1910; on May 28, 1911 she was consecrated. In 1916 the primary school was opened; since the mid-1920s it has also been named after the saint, Antoniusschool . The Schutterij St. Antonius rifle club was founded in 1921 and the VV Sprinkhanen ("Heuschrecken") soccer club was founded in 1936 , the home club of the future Dutch national soccer player Ernie Brandts .
