Karen Elliott House

Karen Elliott House (born December 7, 1947 in Matador , Texas ) is an American journalist and former executive director and editor of the Wall Street Journal .

Life

House grew up in north Texas. She studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin . She was best known for winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for her report on the Middle East for the Wall Street Journal. The report consisted of a series of interviews with the Jordanian King Hussein , in which he predicted the problems of the peace plan for the Middle East by US President Ronald Reagan .

She began her career with the Wall Street Journal in 1974 as a reporter. In 1983 she became an assistant for foreign reporting and then in 1984 foreign reporter. She then became Vice President of the Dow Jones International Group , the publisher of the journal , in 1995 . In 2002 the board of directors elected her as editor, responsible for the weekend edition. Her second husband, Peter R. Kann , whom she married in 1984, also worked in the management of the publishing house. House retired in 2006.

Karen House serves on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations . In the list of most powerful women in 2005 of Forbes magazine was out on rank 73rd In 1990 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
