Matador is a city in Motley County in the US state of Texas and the seat of the county seat .
history
The city was founded in 1891 and named after the Matador Ranch located there. The first post office opened in 1886. The largest population was registered in 1940 with 1,376 inhabitants. According to the 2000 census, around 740 people live there today .
economy
The city is a transshipment point for cattle, horses and agricultural products. There are two hospitals, a school, a weekly newspaper, and recreational facilities at Jameson Lake and Virginia Walton Park.
