Karen Lafferty

Karen Lafferty (born February 29, 1948 in Alamogordo , New Mexico ) is an American singer and music teacher .

Life

Lafferty began learning the piano at the age of 6 . Alto saxophone was added at the age of 9 and oboe at 13 . She has been playing guitar since she was twelve , which she mainly uses in her performances.

Lafferty graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in music (majoring in choral conducting and oboe) in 1970. After that, she began a career as a pop singer.

Setbacks and crises in her private life led the professing Christian to dedicate herself more to her faith and to make it the focus of her life. In her music she also addressed her religion and wrote, among other things, the world-famous song Seek ye first (which in German-speaking countries under the stanzas does not go on in the cares of this world (German text: Gabi Schneider, Hans-Jakob Weinz 1974) or You are the light in the darkness of the world (German text: Winfried Pilz 1982) known Hallelujah ).

Lafferty led Musicians For Missions International (MFMI), a branch of Youth with a Mission ( YWAM ) in Amsterdam for 17 years . In 1996 she moved back to Santa Fe , New Mexico to look after her sick parents.

Lafferty teaches guitar , vocal training , arranging for pop bands, and the use of music in liturgy and preaching . In the 25 years of her activity, she recorded 6 phonograms .
