Karen Schmeer

Karen Schmeer (born February 20, 1970 in Portland , Oregon , † January 29, 2010 in New York City ) was an American film editor .

Life

Schmeer was born on February 20, 1970 in Portland , Oregon . She was the daughter of Michael Schmeer and Eleanor Dubois, and the granddaughter of the photographer Ray Atkeson . After graduating from Lincoln High School in Portland in 1988, she began studying anthropology at Boston University , which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1992 . After working as a ticket seller in a cinema in her youth, her second job in the film business was an unpaid internship with the documentary filmmaker Errol Morris , where she was responsible for research.

On January 29, 2010, shortly before 8 p.m. local time, she was about to cross Broadway on 90th Street and was run over by a getaway vehicle in a robbery that was being followed by police. She died while being transported to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center . The driver was arrested, and the New York City Police Department later said some mistakes were made during the pursuit.
