Karg is the solo project of singer Michael V. Wahntraum from Harakiri for the Sky . The band, which also played live until 2014, can be assigned to post-black metal .

Band history

Karg was founded in the summer as a solo project by V. Wahntraum. Initially conceived as a one-man band, the two albums Von den Winden der Sehnsucht (2008) and Von den Winden der Sehnsucht # 2 (2010) and a split single with Andrarakh were created. The first albums are essentially to be assigned to ambient black metal . Back then, he described Lifelover , Forgotten Woods , Sargeist or Horna as major influences , as well as post-rock bands like This Will Destroy You and Explosions in the Sky . Between 2010 and 2014 the band also played live with changing session members. From 2014, however, the live performances have been reduced and the project only occasionally appears live.

In 2011 he founded Harakiri for the Sky, where he performs as JJ. Since then, both bands have been running in parallel. Other albums were created such as Apathie (2012), Malstrom (2014), Weltenasche (2016) and Dornenvögel (2018).

The seventh album Traktat (2020) reached the German charts for the first time at number 34.

style

All Karg's music is based on Black Metal , where Wahntraum's real roots lie. The earlier albums were mainly influenced by ambient black metal and bands like Nocte Obducta , Dornenreich and neofolk bands like Of the Wand & the Moon : . Over time, influences from post-rock and post-hardcore were added. The texts that address mainly personal and biographical topics on high-German too and from the album World ashes on means Bairisch ( Pongauer dialect written).
