Karin Stief-Kreihe , b. Stief, (born October 20, 1949 in Berlin-Pankow ; † June 3, 2018 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1994 to 1996 she was mayor of the city of Meppen, from 1995 to 2013 a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Karin Stief-Kriehe graduated from secondary school in 1966 . After an apprenticeship as a draftsman , she studied architecture at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Technical University of Hanover . After the civil engineer had passed the two state exams for teaching at vocational schools in 1974 and 1976, she was a trainee teacher at the vocational schools in Meppen from 1977, where she worked as a vocational school teacher until 1995.

Stief-Kreihe joined the SPD in 1974, became chairwoman of the SPD local association Meppen in 1988 and chairwoman of the SPD subdistrict Emsland in 1992 . Since 1991 she was a member of the city council of Meppen and the district council of the district of Emsland . From 1994 to 1996 she was a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Lower Saxony . She was also the honorary mayor of Meppen from 1994 to 1996. Since 1996 she was chairwoman of the SPD district parliamentary group of the Emsland district.

In June 1995 she moved up for the deceased member of Parliament Irmela Hammelstein in the Lower Saxony state parliament. After the state election on March 1, 1998 , she left parliament, but in October 1998 she replaced Karl-Heinz Funke , who had been appointed Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests . She defended her mandate in the 2003 and 2008 state elections . It was elected from the state list; in the Meppen state electoral district it was always subject to the CDU candidates, first Heinz Jansen and later Bernd-Carsten Hiebing . She belonged to the Lower Saxony state parliament until 2013.

Karin Stief-Kreige was married and the mother of three children. She died on June 3, 2018 at the age of 68.
