Karin Thomas

Karin Thomas (born June 27, 1941 in Cologne , née Pannhaus ) is a German art historian and writer.

Life

Karin Thomas studied art history , German , philosophy and history from 1960 to 1965 with a state examination. Then she worked briefly in the teaching post. From 1971 to 2003 she was editor and since 1986 chief editor for art at the Cologne publishing house DuMont , where she edited exhibition catalogs on contemporary art, including Western art (1981) and from here (1984) as well as numerous monographs and encyclopedias. As a freelance journalist, she wrote twenty non-fiction and school books on art history, numerous essays, catalog articles and exhibition reviews.

In 1971 she published her first book Bis heute , which structures the international art history of the 20th century in terms of style. A total of twelve expanded and updated editions will appear up to 2004, as well as licensed editions in Japan and Spain. After the publication of Until today, Karin Thomas published, among other things, Art in Germany since 1945 , Blickpunkt Moderne. A history of art from romanticism to today (2010) and, together with Fritz Seydel and Hubert Sowa, the KUNST picture atlas .

She has been married to the historian and author Rüdiger Thomas since 1966. Both have two children and three grandchildren and live in Bergisch Gladbach .
