Karipap ( English : curry puff; Malay : Karipap, Epok-epok; Chinese  咖哩 角 ; Thai : กะหรี่ปั๊บ , RTGS : karipap, IPA : karì: páp ) is a Malay , Singaporean and Thai snack . It is a small pastry , which mainly consists of curry , chicken and potatoes and is in a deep-fried or baked pastry bowl. The curry is quite thick to protect it from the moisture outside of the snack. Some variations of the South Asian samosa are very similar to the Karipap.

Origins

Karipap was introduced by the Portuguese in 1511 , who called it empanada . The original Malay word "Epok-Epok" is a corruption of empanada.
