Karl-Friedrich Schmidt (chemist)

Karl Friedrich Schmidt (born August 28, 1887 in Heidelberg , † October 30, 1971 in Sulzbach ) was a German chemist. The Schmidt reaction he discovered bears his name.

biography

Karl-Friedrich Schmidt studied chemistry at the Universities of Heidelberg and Munich and received his doctorate under Theodor Curtius in Heidelberg in 1912. After years as assistant to Curtius, he completed his habilitation in 1920. In 1921 he was appointed lecturer for organic chemistry at the Finnish Åbo Akademi , and in the following year he was appointed associate professor. Here he discovered pentetrazole . This material was then produced and marketed at Knoll AG , where Schmidt took on a board position in 1925. In 1936 he left the company and became a private scholar.
