Karl-Peter Wettstein

Karl-Peter Wettstein (* 29. April 1940 in Freiburg , † 16th March 2013 in Plankstadt ) was a German politician ( SPD ) from the Rhine-Neckar region and belonged from 1972 to 2000 the parliament of Baden-Wuerttemberg on .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Schwetzingen in 1959 , Karl-Peter Wettstein studied economics, politics, history, German studies and sports at the universities of Heidelberg and Bonn until 1967 . He then worked as a teacher at the grammar school in Philippsburg and from 1972 to 2004 at the grammar school in Hockenheim . In addition, he held teaching positions in Mannheim at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration and at the University of Cooperative Education . Since 2006 he has been running a management consultancy. Wettstein died in the spring of 2013 after a short, serious illness. He left behind a wife, two children and four grandchildren.

In 1960 Wettstein was one of the co-founders of the Social Democratic University Association and in 1963/64 federal chairman. In 1968/69 he was a member of the state executive committee of the Jusos . From 1970 to 1973 he was deputy chairman of the SPD Mannheim-Land, from 1973 to 1979 in the state executive committee of the SPD Baden-Württemberg and from 1983 to 1989 deputy chairman of the SPD Rhein-Neckar. Wettstein had already been elected to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg in 1972. He belonged to him until January 3, 2000 for almost seven legislative terms before Rosa Grünstein succeeded him. Wettstein was initially the education policy and later economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. From 1976 to 1984 he was a member of the Presidium of the State Parliament, from 1994 to 1996 he was Deputy Chairman of the Economic Committee.
