Karl-Ulrich Winkler
Karl-Ulrich Winkler (born June 22, 1960 in Berlin ; † February 1994 there ) was an East German songwriter , punk and dissident .
Career
In 1976, on the 28th anniversary of the GDR, Winkler appeared on Berlin's Alexanderplatz with texts by Wolf Biermann and Bettina Wegner , was arrested and urged to work with the MfS , which he ended after a year. In 1980 he was arrested after appearing at a Berlin blues fair and released on November 25, 1981 from prison in the GDR in the Federal Republic . From then on he lived in West Berlin and performed with the group Kalle Winkler & Westend Berlin . In 1985 his autobiography Made in GDR was published by Fischer-Taschenbuch-Verlag Frankfurt / Main under the name Kalle Winkler . Songwriter: undesirable , in which, in addition to his own lyrics, he also gave insights into the East Berlin dissident scene and the state fight against it.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall he occupied a former border tower between Treptow and Kreuzberg on Puschkinallee and set up the " Museum of Forbidden Art" there.
He died in a swimming accident in 1994.
