Karl August Moritz Schlegel

Karl August Moritz Schlegel (born September 26, 1756 in Hanover , † January 29, 1826 in Harburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian and publicist.

Life

Karl August Moritz Schlegel was the eldest son of Pastor Johann Adolf Schlegel . His brothers August Wilhelm and Friedrich Schlegel are considered to be co-founders of Romanticism. He studied theology at the University of Göttingen and then became a private tutor in Mecklenburg. In 1785 he became pastor in Bothfeld near Hanover (today part of the city), in 1790 second preacher in Harburg and in 1796 superintendent in Göttingen . Schlegel returned to Harburg in 1816 as general superintendent of the General Diocese of Harburg and first preacher, where he primarily took care of his duties in the church government until his death.

His son Johann August Adolph Schlegel (1790–1840) was a philologist and sub-rector at the Domgymnasium Verden .
