Karl Beck (doctor)

Karl Maria Otto Hans Beck (born March 4, 1880 in Bonndorf i. B .; † March 6, 1942 in Heidelberg ) was a German ENT doctor and university professor.

He was the son of the Lord Mayor of Mannheim and Dr. hc Otto Beck (1846–1908) and his wife Amalie, born von Raouloff (1859–1937), daughter of a portrait painter from Rome. After attending grammar school, he studied medicine at the universities of Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Munich and Berlin . He stayed for practical training at the German Hospital in London , later with Paul Ehrlich in Frankfurt am Main and also with the pathologist Paul Ernst in Heidelberg.

After successful graduation to the Dr. med. and the habilitation with W. Kümmel in Heidelberg in 1913, Karl Beck worked as a full professor and from 1931 as director of the university clinic for ear, nose and throat patients in Heidelberg. His successor in 1942 was Alfred Seiffert (1883–1960).

He married Countess von Sternberg, born Alice, on March 2, 1914 in Mannheim . The sons Heinrich (* 1915) and Arnim (* 1917) and two daughters emerged from their marriage. They lived in Heidelberg, Münchhofstrasse 41.

Karl Beck wrote numerous essays in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine in specialist journals. He also worked on the textbook on radiation therapy , Volume 2, Radiation Therapy in Surgery , which was published by Urban & Schwarzenberg in Berlin and Vienna in 1926.
