Karl Bindel

Karl Bindel (born February 9, 1857 in Speyer , † December 29, 1909 in Bamberg ) was a mountaineer and an active member of the German and Austrian Alpine Club . The Bindelweg and the Bindelweghütte in the Dolomites in Italy are named after him.

Life

Karl Bindel was born in Speyer on February 9, 1857. After working as a teacher in Kronach, in 1891 he became a teacher at the New Gymnasium in Bamberg (today's Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium Bamberg ). From 1895 until his death in 1909, Bindel was chairman of the Bamberg section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association (DuÖAV) (with interruptions in 1899 and 1900). On December 15, 1909, he was appointed honorary chairman of the Bamberg section.

As a member of the DuÖAV, Bindel was involved in the construction of several huts and shelters in the Dolomites. These include the old Bamberger Hütte (Boèhütte), the Pisciaduseehütte and the Fedaiahaus. On 4 August 1903, the trail from was Pordoijoch to Fedaiasee given in honor Bindels the name Bindelweg.

Karl Bindel is the first to climb Piz Lastiës (2857 m in 1897) and Bec de Mesdì (Bamberg peak, 2964 m in 1894). In addition, Bindel was the author of articles in magazines and independent writings.
