Karl Bock (painter)
Karl Bock (born November 12, 1873 in Braunschweig , † March 7, 1940 in Stralsund ) was a German painter and graphic artist from the Düsseldorf School of Painting .
Life
Karl Bock began his training around 1890, initially studying mechanical engineering. From 1898 to 1903 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , a. a. as a master student of the landscape painter Eugen Dücker . From this he learned to paint in the tradition of the Barbizon School. Probably at Dücker's suggestion, he had numerous study visits to the Baltic Sea . From 1918/19 he worked in Lauterbach on the island of Rügen , in 1926 he settled in Stralsund, where he worked until his death.
Karl Bock was a painter of the landscape of Western Pomerania . His main motifs came from the local nature, for example from the islands of Rügen or Vilm and the lagoon landscapes . But also views of cities and individual buildings, especially Stralsund, were part of his work. He also made a few portraits. The Kulturhistorisches Museum in Stralsund owns a large number of works from his work.
"His style is gripping, the paint is impasto, but there are also finely tuned compositions."
