Karl Burckhardt-Iselin (born July 2, 1830 in Basel , † August 24, 1893 there ) was a Swiss politician .

biography

Karl Burckhardt studied law at the universities of Basel , Göttingen , Berlin , Greifswald , Heidelberg and Paris . In Göttingen he belonged to the Corps Bremensia . After completing his studies with the doctorate to Dr. iur. In 1859 he became State Chancellor and Council Clerk in Basel, in 1868 an examining magistrate , in 1871 a criminal and police judge , and in 1872 a court president .

From 1861 to 1873 Burckhardt was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . In 1873 he became the (last) mayor of Basel. In 1875 he was a member of the constitution , after the complete revision of the cantonal constitution he was a member of the government of the police department from 1875 to 1893 . At the same time he was a member of the National Council from 1875 to September 1889 , which he chaired in 1879/80. He represented left freedom . From 1880 to May 1891 he was also a substitute at the federal court .
