Karl Dannenberg

Karl Philipp Christian Dannenberg (born September 25 . Jul / 7. October  1832 greg. In Tuckum ; † April 15 jul. / 27. April  1892 greg. In Riga ) was a Baltic German teacher .

Life

Origin and family

Karl was a son of the master tanner and mayor in Tuckum Johann Dannenberg and Amalie, nee. Gottling. He married Marie Schönberg in 1867.

Career

Dannenberg first attended elementary school from 1840 and then the district school in Tuckum and, until 1852, the government high school in Riga . In the years 1852 to 1854 he found a job as a private tutor in Bergshof near Riga. He studied theology in Dorpat until 1857 and was then a tutor again until 1860, but in Errestfer . From 1860 to 1866 historical studies followed in Dorpat. In the meantime he had worked as a teacher at the Sintenis School in Werro in 1863 . From 1866 he was senior teacher for history and until 1867 science teacher at the secondary school in Mitau . From 1867 to 1890 he was finally a teacher at the Gouvernementsgymnasium in Mitau and during this time from 1868 to 1886 head of a private preschool for the grammar school and from 1878 to 1890 inspector of the grammar school. From 1890 until his death he was a teacher at various private schools in Mitau.

Dannenberg was councilor, treasurer of the Courland Society for Literature and Art from 1872 , treasurer and curator of the Courland Provincial Museum from 1881 and finally treasurer of the Latvian Literary Society from 1882 to 1892 .
