Karl Dorfmeister
Karl Dorfmeister (born August 9, 1876 in Vienna ; † December 10, 1955 there ) was an Austrian architect.
Life
Karl Dorfmeister was the son of the sculptor Franz Dorfmeister . He attended the master craftsman's school at the Vienna State Trade School, which he graduated from in 1896. From 1901 to 1903 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Otto Wagner . In 1903 he received the Rome Prize, a state travel grant. Buildings by Dorfmeister are only known from the 1920s in Vienna.
power
As an Otto Wagner student, Karl Dorfmeister was a great talent who left behind remarkable student works and designs. However, he found it difficult to assert himself as an architect, although it remains open whether he simply did not succeed in acquiring commissions or whether he did not want to be restricted in his artistic freedom. Few of his buildings exist. These are social residential buildings of the municipality of Vienna, which correspond to the typical Viennese municipal building style.
