Karl Fochler

Karl Fochler (born May 23, 1898 in Vienna , † May 23, 1982 in Baden ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Fochler worked as a theater actor, among others at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna . There he was a permanent member of the ensemble for many years.

His stage roles there in the 1950s included, among others, Count Montacuto in The Imitation of Christ play by Max Mell , Dr. Ströhle in the comedy Jean by Ladislaus Bus-Fekete , Sheppard in the historical drama Johanna von Lothringen by Maxwell Anderson , Trapu (Manon's friend) in the operetta A woman who knows what she wants from Oscar Straus (all season 1953/1954), Lawyer and Lindboe in the comedy Hocus-Pocus by Curt Goetz , Southard in Mutiny on the Caine by Herman Wouk and Miguel in the play Mariana Pineda by Federico García Lorca (all season 1954/1955).

Fochler has worked in numerous German and Austrian film productions since the late 1930s, including as Count Alajos Károlyi in the Nazi propaganda film Bismarck (1940), as Lieutenant Colonel Prokop in the historical film Trenck, the Pandur (1940) and, in a smaller role, in the anti-British propaganda film Titanic (1943).

After the Second World War, Karl Fochler became known as a film actor as Count Grünne, among other things through the Sissi films.

Since the 1960s, Fochler also worked for television ; in particular, he played in several Austrian television series, such as The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schwejk (1972) and Hallo - Hotel Sacher… Portier! (1974).
