Karl Folwarczny

Karl Folwarczny (* 1832 ; † October 4, 1875 in Gries near Bozen ) was an Austrian doctor.

Live and act

He studied medicine in Vienna with Johann Florian Heller and in 1860 became senior physician in Infantry Regiment No. 55, later senior physician at Garrison Hospital No. 1 in Vienna. Then he was Heller's assistant at the pathological-chemical laboratory and lecturer in physiological and pathological chemistry. In 1863 he became a professor at the University of Vienna and the following year he moved to the University of Graz as an associate professor . In 1871, after returning from the Franco-Prussian War , he became head of the Kurhaus in Gries, South Tyrol .

He was the first to detect lactic acid in the blood of a living patient and lithium compounds in the ashes of the human body in 1858 .
