Karl Friedrich II. Von Württemberg-Oels (born February 7, 1690 in Merseburg , † December 14, 1761 in Oels ) was Duke of Württemberg-Oels and regent of the Duchy of Württemberg .

Life

Karl Friedrich was a son of Duke Christian Ulrich I of Württemberg-Oels (1652–1704) from his second marriage to Princess Sibylle Marie (1667–1693), daughter of Duke Christian I of Saxony-Merseburg . When his father died, still a minor, he was initially under guardianship and was declared of legal age in 1707.

Karl Friedrich married on April 21, 1709 Stuttgart with Sibylle Charlotte (1690-1735), daughter of Duke Friedrich Ferdinand von Württemberg-Weiltingen .

From 1738 he was elected regent of the Duchy of Württemberg as guardian of Duke Carl Eugen . He was the successor to Duke Carl Rudolf von Württemberg-Neuenstadt , who had resigned from office for reasons of age. During this time, in 1740, the outbreak of the War of the Austrian Succession . In 1742 Karl Friedrich's homeland Silesia came under Prussian sovereignty after the Peace of Wroclaw , but neither the regent nor his successor took part in this war. During Karl Friedrich's reign the good understanding with the estates was restored and the state administration was significantly improved. In 1744, at the age of 16, Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg was declared of legal age by Emperor Charles VII , which ended Karl Friedrich's work as administrator in Württemberg.

The duke's marriage had remained childless. In 1744 Karl Friedrich renounced the government in Oels in favor of the son of his younger brother Christian Ulrich , Karl Christian Erdmann . He then lived first in Medzibor and finally in Oels, where he died at the age of 72.
