Karl Gottfried Baldauf , also Carl Gottfried Baldauf (* 1751 in Marienberg ; † September 2, 1811 in Freiberg ) was a German mining engineer.

Baldauf studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg from 1769 and then began working as a mining official in Saxony. In 1785 he became a mountain jury in Schneeberg .

In 1790, Baldauf traveled to Ilmenau at the invitation of Goethe, with whom he had remained in contact since his visit to Schneeberg, to examine the mine there and to set up a water column machine . The machine went into operation on September 17, 1790. In 1792 he traveled to the Upper Silesian mining district on behalf of Mining Captain Carl Wilhelm Benno von Heynitz to inspect the new types of fire engines that had been introduced there.

From 1795 Baldauf was a senior driver in Schneeberg and in 1800 was appointed senior art master to Freiberg as the successor to the late Johann Friedrich Mende . In the same year, he was also appointed mining authority assessor in Freiberg.

Baldauf designed a wide variety of mining machines and systems. One of these was the horse peg, built between 1797 and 1798 at Neu Leipziger Glück Fundgrube near Johanngeorgenstadt , which was rebuilt elsewhere after its demolition based on old plans and is now one of the city's tourist attractions. He also improved and expanded the machines required for the production of coins for stretching and cutting the plates (Zaine) in the silver hammer of the Dresden Mint .
