Karl Gottfried Zimmermann

Karl Gottfried Zimmermann (born January 29, 1796 in Hamm near Hamburg; † April 6, 1876 in Hamburg ) was a German doctor and geologist .

Life

Karl Gottfried Zimmermann was a son of the preacher Carl Gottfried Zimmermann (1760–1826) and his wife Johanna Christine, nee. Milow (1776-1844). He studied in Berlin and received his doctorate there in 1820. He settled as a general practitioner in Hamburg and in 1836 became director of the local asylum for the blind. He published numerous medical, but also geological essays and writings.

Zimmermann was a co-founder of the scientific association in Hamburg in 1836.

He had been married to Friederike Luise Buek (1801–1846), a sister of Heinrich Wilhelm Buek , since 1825 , and had with her the sons Gottfried Theodor (1828–1911) and Karl Eberhard (1835–1878).
