Baron Berndt Otto II. Von Stackelberg , also the younger , ( Swedish Bernt Otto formerly Stackelberg ; born May 14, 1703 in Reval ; † June 4, 1787 in Stor-Heikkilä kungsgård), was a Swedish field marshal .

Life

Origin and family

Berndt Otto was a member of the Barons von Stackelberg . His parents were the Swedish field marshal Berndt Otto I. von Stackelberg (1662–1734) and Margareta Elisabeth, née Freiin Maydell from the house of Wredenhagen (1681–1767). He married Sofia Henrietta Fredrika, née von Werkamp, in 1731 in Stuttgart . Alt-Barckhausen, widowed von Adlerflycht († 1733). His second wife was Amalia Elisabet Freiin von Ellrichshausen (1717–1778) in 1734 . The two marriages resulted in a total of 19 children, including the Swedish Lieutenant General Bernt Fredrik Johan Stackelberg (1733–1801).

Berndt Otto the Younger became the progenitor of all Swedish Stackelbergs.

Career

Stackelberg began his career in 1714 as a volunteer in the Swedish Tavastehussche Infantry Regiment and in 1716 with the Admiralty. Meanwhile advanced to ensign , he joined the Hessian body grenadier regiment as a lieutenant and in 1726 became court junior in Hesse-Kassel . In 1731 he became Swedish Chamberlain and joined the Imperial Regiment of Old Württemberg as captain . With this he took part in the War of the Polish Succession and in 1735 became chamberlain to the Duke of Württemberg. He also fought with this regiment in the Austro-Russian Turkish War and was finally promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1738 . With this rank he joined in 1739 in Danish services to third Jutland Regiment and took 1746 his farewell . Now he went back to Swedish services and the infantry regiment in Åbo . In 1748 he became a Knight of the Order of the Sword and in 1749 became a colonel . He took part in the Seven Years War . He was promoted to major general in 1760 and to lieutenant general in 1770. As commander in chief of all troops in Finland , he had been responsible from 1776, which he remained until 1780. He left his regiment in 1777 and was promoted to field marshal in 1778.
