Memorial stone for Karl Härle

Karl Härle (born September 19, 1872 in Aulendorf ; † June 16, 1962 in Koblenz ) was a German farmer and the largest shareholder in the Karthäuserhof in Koblenz.

Career

Karl Härle was born in 1872 as the son of the economist and brewery owner Heinrich Härle († 1923 in Koblenz) and Elisabeth Eberle in Aulendorf, Württemberg. After an agricultural apprenticeship , he attended the Agricultural University in Weihenstephan in 1895 and was then manager in his parents' company until 1910. On April 1, 1912, together with his father and brother Eugen, he acquired the Karthäuserhof estate on the Karthauser in Koblenz. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as an officer .

Karl Härle expanded the previously run-down Karthäuserhof into an industrial model company. He ran a dairy farm, set up a dairy with a daily capacity of 25,000 liters, an extensive orchard with around 18,000 bush fruit crops, a vineyard with 26,000 vines and cultivated a 55 hectare arable area. The estate received valuable prizes at many exhibitions for its milk and dairy products, fine fruit and vineyards . He employed around 80 people, for whom he had 48 company apartments built. At the beginning of the 1940s, the Karthäuserhof had become the largest supply company on the Middle Rhine.

The estate was almost completely destroyed by an air raid on September 21, 1944 during World War II. Karl Härle managed to rebuild the building in the late 1940s. Since he had no descendants of his own and his brother's family had already sold their shares, he also sold his share of the farm in 1959 to the city of Koblenz, which had all the buildings demolished and a large new building area built on the site.

In recognition of his services, the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate appointed him economics councilor in 1952 , in 1957 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and in 1958 the Chamber of Agriculture of Rhineland-Nassau awarded him the Golden Chamber Plaque. Karl Härle died on June 16, 1962 in Koblenz and was buried in the family crypt in the main cemetery in Koblenz . The main street of the new building area bears the name Karl-Härle-Straße , and a memorial stone was erected for him on the spot where his estate previously stood.
