Karl Hauschildt (born February 28, 1920 in Kiel , † June 17, 2009 in Neumünster ) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and long-time provost in Neumünster, who also emerged as a book author.

Live and act

Born to parents in Eckernförde in Kiel, Hauschildt grew up in Ellerbek . In the family only Low German was spoken, so that the boy only learned High German at school, according to his own admission, with great difficulty "almost like a foreign language".

Immediately after graduating from high school in Wellingdorf in 1938 , he began studying theology, but was only able to complete it in 1947 due to the Second World War . For a short time in the Black Forest in church service, he returned to Schleswig-Holstein and worked as an assistant at the University of Kiel , religion teacher and from 1948 to 1953 pastor in Einfeld. Then Hauschildt was appointed as a consultant for education and instruction in the regional church office of the Schleswig-Holstein regional church. With the outsourcing of the catechetical office he later became its head. As the Oberlandeskirchenrat in Kiel he was elected provost in 1966 and has worked in Neumünster ever since.

He also worked on the board of the Breklumer Mission. In 1972 he was elected to the board of directors of the North Elbe Mission Center , of which he was chairman for many years (until 1993) in 1975.

In 1967 Hauschildt founded the " Church Collection on the Bible and Confession in the North Elbe Church" and was its honorary chairman from 1999. From 1986 to 1992 he was chairman of the Conference of Confessing Communities in the Evangelical Churches in Germany .

The doctor of theology remained committed to the Low German language. As early as 1956, he revived “Sermons on Platt” and from 1971 worked together with the NDR on Low German morning devotions, which made him known to an even wider circle. In addition to his specialist publications, he produced numerous fiction books in Low German as well as a dialect record.
