Heinz Karl Heiland , also Karl Heiland , Heinz Carl Heiland and Heinz-Karl Heiland (born July 10, 1876 in Düsseldorf , † October 10, 1932 in Berlin ) was a German film director , film producer , screenwriter , cameraman and actor .

Life

Heiland initially worked as a travel writer , mainly for the Scherl-Verlag , where, for example, he described bison hunt in the car in 1913 and illustrated it with plenty of his own photos. He himself stated as his résumé in 1926:

"High school, technical college (Corps), trainee machinist on East Asian steamer, cowboy in Mexico, bear hunter in Alaska, racing driver, globetrotter, big game hunter, writer, film director - now nothing worse can come."

In 1912 he shot his first two expedition films on the edge of the Caucasus . When war broke out in 1914, he was in India and then returned to Germany.

The films he made in Germany during the war also took place in an exotic atmosphere. Since 1919 he has mostly produced himself and regularly made actress Loo Holl the leading actress.

From 1924 to 1926 Heiland traveled through Japan, China and India and filmed The White Geisha and Bushido - The Iron Law in these countries . The audience success was modest compared to the great expense, and his further efforts to produce films in East Asia with the help of Indian and Japanese donors were unsuccessful. He passed out of life voluntarily.
