Molling was an alpine ski racer at the beginning of his sports career. He drew attention to himself at the Junior World Championships in 1991 in Hemsedal , where he won the bronze medal in the downhill. However, this remained his only notable success, the breakthrough to the top of the world never came. He contested his last alpine ski race in April 1997, after which he switched to ski cross.
Molling made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on January 18, 2003 in Laax , where he finished 27th. He achieved his first podium on March 12, 2003 with second place in Les Contamines . He celebrated his only World Cup victory on January 10, 2004 in Pozza di Fassa . With a total of five top 10 placements in the 2003/04 season, he was sixth in the discipline ranking. Another podium was added in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. From 2007 Molling could no longer achieve the previous level of performance and finally resigned in March 2009.
