Karl Helfenberger

Karl Michael Helfenberger (born July 20, 1878 in Bergen ; † May 27, 1945 in Bremen ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Helfenberger was born the son of a Büttner . After attending elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a cooper. He initially worked in the profession he had learned and later became a union employee. From 1907 to 1919 he was chairman of the branch of the Böttcherverband in Nuremberg and at the same time a member of the regional board of the union. From May 1919 to 1928 he worked as an editor for the Böttcherzeitung in Bremen and from 1928 until his dismissal in 1933 he was a union employee, district manager of the food and beverage workers' association based in Bremen. In the 1920s he also served as a board member of the Kreissparkasse in Achim .

Helfenberger joined the SPD and was chairman of the SPD sub-district Achim-Verden from 1926 to 1928. He was initially involved in local politics and was a local councilor and unpaid alderman in Hemelingen as well as a member of the district council from 1921 to 1932 and a district committee member of the Achim district from 1926 to 1933 . In May 1928 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he was a member until 1932. In parliament he represented constituency 15 (East Hanover).

During the time of National Socialism , Helfenberger was imprisoned in Verden prison for a longer period of time .

Karl Helfenberger had been married since 1908 and had three children.
