Karl Hellmuth Dammas

Karl Hellmuth Dammas (pseudonym: Feodor Steffens ) (born October 22, 1816 in Bergen on Rügen , † May 25, 1885 in Berlin ) was a German composer and poet .

Karl Hellmuth Dammas was the son of the teacher Johann Friedrich Dammas . He attended high school in Stralsund , then went to Berlin and studied at the Royal Institute for Church Music, later at the Academy of Arts .

However, he had to give up his studies and secure his existence through music lessons and the publication of compositions. At the age of 26 he entered the civil service. In 1843 Dammas got a job in the press office of the High Presidium in Potsdam .

Later, at the request of the king , he became Ludwig Tieck 's writing secretary and took part in his round tables in Sanssouci . On the mediation of Tieck and Wilhelm von Humboldt , he got a job in the Royal Court Marshal's Office and six months later became secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Here he began to write.

In 1862 Dammas took part in the 2nd London Industrial Exhibition . In 1865 he became second, from 1875 until his death he was first director of the General Lottery Directorate.
