Karl Hinderer
Karl Hinderer (born April 12, 1931 in Göppingen ; † April 17, 2010 ) was a German mathematician .
Act
After attending the Hohenstaufen grammar school in Göppingen, Karl Hinderer studied mathematics and physics at the Technical University of Stuttgart . After a research stay in Berkeley , he came to the University of Hamburg as professor of stochastics . From 1976 he was full professor and head of the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics at the University of Karlsruhe . Between 1989 and 1991 he was dean of the mathematics faculty there. He dealt with probability theory and operations research and in particular with stochastic dynamic optimization, where he wrote the monograph Foundations of Nonstationary Dynamic Programming with Discrete Time Parameters . In 1993 he retired .
In 1991 he received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden .
He died at the age of 79 and was buried in Waldbronn -Reichenbach.
