Karl Ingenerf (born June 5, 1923 in Cologne-Bickendorf ; † February 21, 2005 in Cologne ) was a long-time local politician, honorary mayor from 1961 to 1965 and was present and active in Hürth's public life for over 50 years .

Life

Ingenerf was born the youngest of five children. His studies as a primary school teacher were interrupted by military service and military service. As the only son of his family from the Second World War, he was able to return home unharmed after deployments in the Western and Eastern campaigns at the newly opened Pedagogical Academy , which was temporarily housed in Bickendorf. He started his first job as a junior teacher in Kalscheuren in the summer of 1947 . In 1949 he became headmaster there. In 1956 he became rector of the then eight-class Catholic elementary school in Knapsack and was last appointed rector of the newly built Catholic Katharinenschule in (Alt-) Hürth in 1960 for 300 pupils . Due to the residence obligation that was still in force at the time , he took quarters in each of these districts and participated in public, if not yet in political life. In 1947 he took over the leadership of the Catholic Youth in Kalscheuren, founded the Kalscheuren sports club in 1949 and the local and cultural association of the Hürth community in 1950. He remained active in church and community throughout his life. On his initiative, the city ​​association of local and village communities Hürth was founded in 1975 . He was then the first chairman for many years.

In 1960 he married Anneliese Schmitz from Bergisch Gladbach , and three children were born to the couple. His wife was a valuable support to him, especially when he was in poor health. Because of his health, he retired early in 1981 without giving up his engagement in church, associations and society.

For many years he was president of the Große Knapsacker Carnival Society . His last engagement was with the hospice association in Hürth. He was one of the founding members in 1998. It should be emphasized that in addition to his many activities, he found time for art. So he wrote stories and poems with wisdom and humor, which he decorated with drawings and linocuts . Some are printed with an appreciation in the Hürth homeland. He was also a master of the word in his speeches, to which he was asked on many occasions.

In 1952 he joined the CDU and ran for the local council, was chairman of the parliamentary group in the next electoral term and in 1961, when his party became the strongest parliamentary group, he replaced the long-time SPD mayor. Re-elected in 1964, he had to resign from all political offices in 1965 for health reasons. During his time as a politician, important decisions were made to transform the community into a city. He chaired the mediation committee for the resettlement of Knapsack. On the occasion of his resignation, the laudator in his home town of Hürth confirmed that he was undisputedly the most popular personality . His last political activity was the establishment of the Hürth City Association of the Senior Citizens' Union in June 1993.

Honors

Ingenerf received honorary membership in many Hürth associations, the city granted him honorary citizenship (2003), the state the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (for services in extracurricular youth education, 1972). The city named a street after him in the mayor's quarter .
