Karl Josef Romer

Karl Josef Romer (born July 8, 1932 in Benken SG ) is retired Curia Bishop .

Life

Karl Josef Romer went to the St. Antonius grammar school in Appenzell and passed his Matura in 1952. After completing his studies, he was ordained a priest on March 22, 1958 .

Paul VI appointed him on October 24, 1975 auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and titular bishop of Columnata . The Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Cardinal Eugênio de Araújo Sales , consecrated him on December 12 of the same year as bishop ; Co- consecrators were José Alberto Lopes de Castro Pinto , auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro , and Joseph Hasler , bishop of St. Gallen .

On April 13, 2002, John Paul II appointed him secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family . On November 10, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
