The St. Antonius grammar school is a public school with a lower grammar school ( secondary school ) and a maturity school in Appenzell .

history

The "Kollegi" was headed until 1999 by the Capuchins of the Capuchin Monastery, which was closed in 2011. In the years before, a secular faculty also taught alongside the monks . Since the school was taken over by the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden , it has been correctly called Gymnasium , but is still called "Kollegi" (college) in everyday language. As the name suggests, this school is dedicated to Saint Anthony .

The last spiritual rector was Father Ephrem, while the first secular rector was Ivo Bischofberger , who resigned from his position at the end of the 2011/2012 school year. His successor, Roman Walker, took over this post from then on. After two years in office, there was a bitter blow of fate for the grammar school, whereupon Silvio Breitenmoser became Rector ad interim for the 2015/2016 school year. Markus Urech is currently the principal of the grammar school.

Infrastructure

The grammar school also has a boarding school, which can accommodate 52 students.

The Education Department of the Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, various rooms of the Appenzell Music School and the Foyer dal Cappuccino are housed in the same building.

The "Gymi-App" was programmed by students as part of the promotion of talent for the iPhone and shows, among other things, timetables, news, the menu plan of the cafeteria and a holiday countdown .

Occasions at high school

The St. Antonius Appenzell grammar school offers its students various occasions to encourage community thinking. This includes:

  • Anthony's Day: St. Anthony, the school's namesake, is commemorated on Anthony's Day . After the service in the chapel next to the grammar school, the Antonius Prize is awarded to students nominated by students and selected by a jury who have made a special contribution in the social field.
  • Sports day: On the sports day, instead of the normal morning lessons, various sports activities and games are played in a group with a certain motto at posts, in the afternoon a floorball tournament and a mini football tournament are held. This event also serves to strengthen the community
  • Winter sports day: On winter sports day, winter sports are practiced instead of regular lessons. The choice between cross-country skiing , ice skating , skiing on the Kronberg and skiing on the Jakobshorn ( Graubünden ) is offered anew every year.
  • Mountain day: On the mountain day there are mountain hikes in classes.
  • Project days : In the project days, in the first and second grade, class-by-class projects that alternate between three or five days (odd year = three days, even year = five days) are carried out; from the third grade onwards, projects are offered from which the Students are allowed to choose which one they like best. The projects will be presented at another voluntary event. Every class and every project is represented there.
