Ivo Bischofberger (born February 24, 1958 in Heiden ; resident in Oberegg ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and was a member of the Council of States .

Life

Ivo Bischofberger grew up in Oberegg with three siblings. He was called community clerk Ivo because his father and grandfather were district clerks. For the canton school he moved to the boarding school of the St. Antonius College in Appenzell . He then studied history, German literature, English literature and political science in Zurich and Konstanz and did his doctorate on the topic of border disputes between Appenzell Ausser- und Innerrhoden. He returned to the Appenzell grammar school as a teacher and was its rector for twelve years until the end of the 2011/2012 school year .

From 1986 to 1992 he sat in the Oberegg district court and from 1992 to 2008 in the court of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden . He was also President of the Cantonal Court from 1993 to 2008 .

On April 29, 2007, the political lateral entrant was elected to the new Council of States in the fourth ballot by the Landsgemeinde of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. He was the successor to Carlo Schmid-Sutter (CVP). Bischofberger is the first Innerrhoden Council of States that is not also a member of the professional ethics committee (cantonal government).

He made a name for himself in the Council of States as President of the Commission for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy. In terms of his interests, his membership in the “Groupe de réflexion santé” of the Groupe Mutuel health insurance company was criticized.

At the beginning of the 2016 winter session, Ivo Bischofberger was elected President of the Council of States .

In 2019 he resigned from the Council of States.

Bischofberger lives in Oberegg and is married.
