from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Joseph Biener Knight von Bienenberg (Czech Karel Josef Biener z Bienenberka ; born November 4, 1731 in Schlan , † January 20, 1798 in Prague , knight since 1769) was captain of the old Bohemian Königgrätzer Kreis in the Kingdom of Bohemia and a historian . Because of his prehistoric research , he is considered the father of Bohemian prehistory .

origin

Karl Joseph Biener was a son of Joseph Georg Johann Biener († around 1750), doctor of medicine, district physicist in Schlan , since 1740 professor of anatomy at Charles University in Prague and a grandson of Philipp Anton Biener, regimental auditor and imperial royal judge in Leitmeritz and Prague. In 1754 the father was given the nobility with the title "von Biener".

Life

Karl Joseph Biener was a law graduate from Charles University. In 1775 he became an adjunct at the district office in Leitmeritz and around 1783 district chief in Königgrätz . When Emperor Joseph II had the Königgrätz fortress expanded against Prussia, Karl Joseph Biener von Bienenberg's main interest was in the prehistoric finds and their sites. He made careful drawings, exchanged ideas and research with like-minded researchers, called for systematic excavations and, in publications, suspected that Bohemia was settled by Slavs that went back to prehistoric times . This received special recognition from Czech scientists. From 1779 until his death he lived in Prague.
