Julius Sandt

Karl Julius Sandt (born February 8, 1856 in Löbau , Kingdom of Saxony , † September 23, 1928 ) was a German entrepreneur and brewery director . He is considered one of the most important sponsors of the city of Löbau during the early days of the company .

Born in 1856, Sandt began an apprenticeship as a businessman in 1870 . In 1871 he got a job in the Löbauer Actien brewery , of which he became director in 1888. In 1890 he founded the Actien-Malzfabrik , from 1896 he ran the Saxon-Silesian carbon dioxide industry in his hometown. In 1920 he retired.

In 1891 he began to pursue Karl Benjamin Preusker's idea of founding a city museum for his hometown more intensively. In 1893 he succeeded in convincing the Löbauer citizens' association of the idea. The city ​​museum was finally opened on May 3, 1894. Sandt ran the museum as an honorary museum director until his death . In 1896 he had a house built on today's Löbauer Breitscheidstrasse , the Villa Sandt . He moved into this with his family in 1911.

Sandt was regarded as a shop steward for the Ministry of Culture , was the founder of an amateur photography association and was involved as a member of a choral society. He was involved in building up the Löbauer Bank and was a member (1892-1919) and chairman (1915-1919) of the supervisory board . In 1918 he set up a foundation aimed at young people interested in shorthand. Sandt is said to have been the initiator of various monuments in the city of Löbau, including the Kaiser Wilhelm monument at the foot of the park known today as Friedenhains .

Julius Sandt died on September 23, 1928.
