Karl Köther (singer)
Karl Köther (* 1887 ; † 1992 ) was a German singer ( bass baritone ), director and artistic director.
Life
Karl Köther began his singing career in 1921/22 at the Stadttheater Heilbronn . From 1922 to 1929 he was engaged at the Wiesbaden City Theater. In 1928 he was involved in the German premieres of Madonna Imperia by Franco Alfano and the three minute operas by Darius Milhaud in Wiesbaden . In 1929 he moved to the State Theater in Nuremberg . From 1934 to 1938 he worked at the Landestheater Darmstadt . Most recently he was engaged at the Chemnitz City Theater from 1938 to 1951 .
In Chemnitz he also worked as a director. In 1951 he became artistic director at the Stadttheater Eisenach , in 1954 at the Theater Köthen and in 1960 at the Zeitz Theater. There was made an honorary member.
His repertoire as a singer included u. a. The Wildschütz (Graf Eberbach), Tannhäuser and the Sängerkrieg on Wartburg (Wolfram), Rigoletto (title role) and Don Carlos (Posa).
