Karl Klages (politician, 1904)

Karl Klages (born December 26, 1904 in Eschershausen , † September 12, 1967 in Bad Gandersheim ) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Karl Klages was born the son of a carpenter and forest worker. After attending school, he graduated from the teacher training college in Wolfenbüttel in 1919 . He worked as a teacher in Braunschweig and Offleben from 1925 , but was dismissed in 1931 for political reasons. In the year of the " seizure of power " (1933) he practiced his teaching profession in Berlin , but was again dismissed for political reasons. After a period of unemployment, he did Reich labor service and took part in World War II as a soldier . Most recently he was taken prisoner by the English, from which he was released in 1945. In autumn 1945 he took up a position as rector and headmaster in Langelsheim .

Klages joined the SPD and had been a member of the Langelsheim community council since 1948. He was first mayor of Langelsheim and from 1957 he was the district administrator of the Gandersheim district , where he was a member of the district council. In January 1962 he became senior district director.

Klages ran unsuccessfully in the federal elections in 1953 and 1957 . In the state elections in April 1959 , he was elected as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, to which he was a member until his resignation on June 4, 1962.

Honors

A school and a street in Langelsheim bear his name.
