Karl Komzák senior
Karl Komzák , Czech Karel Komzák (born November 4, 1823 in Netěchovice , Bohemia ; † March 19, 1893 , ibid) was a Bohemian composer and conductor.
Komzák composed a large number of marches, which he played with his band from 1854. One of his musicians was Antonín Dvořák , who became a violist with Komzák from 1859. In 1862 Komzák, who had previously played mainly in inns with his popular band, received an engagement as orchestra director of the Czech Interim Theater (České Prozatímní Divadlo) in Prague, with his musicians forming the basis of the newly formed ensemble.
In 1865 he resigned the direction of the orchestra, Bedřich Smetana was appointed his successor and took over the direction of a military band. In 1888 Komzák retired.
His son Karl Komzák junior learned to make music and composing from his father and later also became a successful composer.
