Karl Ludwig Gerok

Karl Ludwig Wilhelm Gerok (born January 27, 1906 in Oberfischach near Gaildorf , † June 28, 1975 in Murrhardt ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Karl Ludwig Gerok studied first at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart with the monastery organist Arnold Strebel and then with Karl Straube in Leipzig.

From 1930 he was the cathedral organist in Halberstadt . From 1948 Gerok was organist at the Markuskirche in Stuttgart and from 1958 to 1969 organist at the Stuttgart collegiate church . The later choirmaster and composer Edgar Rabsch (1928–1990) as well as Helmuth Rilling were among his students there.

During this time he was also a key contributor to the Württemberg Choral Book of 1953. From 1946 he worked as an organ teacher at the church music school in Esslingen am Neckar and later at the Stuttgart Music Academy . He was the author of the standard work Course on Organ Improvisation .

Karl Gerok died on June 28, 1975 and was buried in the Walterichsfriedhof in Murrhardt.
