Martin Rössler , also Martin Rössler (* 1934 in Pforzheim ), is a German church musician , Protestant theologian, music director and emeritus professor in Tübingen .

Career

Martin Rößler studied church music and Protestant theologian. From 1966 to 1973 it was music director at the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen and was involved in theological training. After working in the parish priests in Hagelloch near Tübingen and Bronnweiler near Reutlingen , he mainly taught liturgy and hymnology at the Protestant theological faculty of the University of Tübingen .

Martin Rößler worked on the Evangelical Hymnbook for the Evangelical Church in Germany and for the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . As a preacher, Rößler also published highly acclaimed “song sermons” in which the theology, poetry and history of individual hymn book stanzas were worked out. Rößler became known through the depiction of melodists and poets of Christian hymn books . Various biographies were processed by Rößler according to historical criteria and today often form the basis for the short biographies that are common in all major hymn books. On the other hand, Rößler examined the origin and development of hymn books, starting with the Reformation .

As a hymnologist, Rößler published selected examples of the genre of a song sermon in his Bronnweiler sermon volume .
