Volker Lutz

Volker Lutz (born November 8, 1941 in Stuttgart ; † February 4, 2020 in Stuttgart) was a German choir director , conductor , organist , church music director and university teacher in Tübingen .

Life

Volker Lutz studied at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart and at the Church Music School in Esslingen, where he passed the A-exam . From 1967 he was a church musician, initially at the Friedenskirche in Stuttgart, and then from 1978 to 1994 at the evangelical Markuskirche in Stuttgart.

In 1968, Volker Lutz and Peter Thalheimer founded the Collegium Musica Rara Stuttgart, which makes music on historical instruments . He played as harpsichordist and organist with all Stuttgart professional orchestras as well as the Heilbronn and Pforzheimer chamber orchestras and was also involved in opera, drama and especially ballet productions at the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart . From 1977 to 1996 Volker Lutz was the artistic director of the Swabian Singing Circle . At the end of 1996 he had to end his active artistic career due to the lasting consequences of a serious accident.

From 1971 to 2019, Volker Lutz also worked as an organ expert for the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . He looked after both historical and new instruments and supervised the construction of new organs in the Stuttgart region.

From 1971 Lutz was a lecturer for ear training, since 1977 he has been professor for organ building at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and was also at the University of Church Music Esslingen / Tübingen from 1977 to 2006. In 1983 the title of church music director was awarded by regional bishop Hans von Keler . From 1998 to 2006 Volker Lutz was professor and prorector of the Evangelical University for Church Music in Tübingen .
