Karl Ludwig Honeck

Karl Ludwig Honeck (born December 13, 1893 in Meran , Austria-Hungary , † 1984 ) was a South Tyrolean horticultural engineer.

Life

After high school in Merano , he went to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna as a student . In the First World War he did military service; he was initially deployed in Russia; after that he was a first lieutenant on Monte Grappa until the end of the war .

After the First World War he studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. In 1923 he married Maria Pichler from Schenna. In 1924 the couple bought what is now Pension Diana in Obermais . The marriage produced three sons.

In 1940 - as part of the option - they moved to the German Reich and went to Weihenstephan . Honeck studied here at the Higher School for Horticulture, Department of Science of Genetics and acquired the title of horticultural assistant or horticultural engineer.

Years later, Honeck returned to Merano. He got to know Arthur Ladurner and Erwin Hampel ; the three were also called "the great botanist trio". Honeck studied the botany especially of the Mediterranean and subtropical plants. In 1965, the first edition of his little book Merans southern plant decorations appeared .

Honeck was a long-time member of the Royal Horticultural Society .

  • Park of the manufacturer Oberrauch in Bozen
  • Riffeser Garden in Gratsch
  • Höllwarth garden in Moritzing (today a district of Gries-Quirein )
  • Terraced park of the Hotel Tivoli in Merano
  • Schrötter garden in the Hotel Wiesenhof in Lagundo
  • Park on Küchelberg owned by the Walter and Brigitte Gutweniger couple
  • Garden of the Villa Dr. Harp in Obermais
  • Park in the Schlosshotel Rundegg
