Karl Ludwig Lindt (born March 20, 1902 in Darmstadt ; † October 17, 1971 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German-American theater director and actor on the stage, film and television.

Live and act

Lindt had started as a stage actor in the 1920s (including in Würzburg) and had also directed stage since the early 1930s, when he was employed at the Intimate Theater in Nuremberg. Other theater stations (as actor and director) were Schneidemühl, Darmstadt, Gießen, Koblenz and finally (in the early phase of World War II) Freiburg, where Lindt settled. From then on, he was to work both as a director and as an actor at the municipal theaters there. Even after the war he continued his theater work in Freiburg, but at the beginning of the 1950s he decided to emigrate temporarily to the United States.

There he was naturalized on August 19, 1954 and even found employment in Hollywood between 1953 and 1956. His most famous film role there was the researcher Dr. Adolph Engelborg in the science fiction classic Metaluna 4 doesn't answer . In 1956 Lindt returned to the Federal Republic and found employment in both television and cinema films, including two adaptations of Thomas Mann's novels ( Confessions of the impostor Felix Krull , Buddenbrooks ). In 1961 he was the lawyer Dr. Zeidlitz in Billy Wilder's crazy comedy One, Two, Three . After that, Lindt was almost only seen in TV games. At the time of his death, Karl Ludwig Lindt was just starring in the television series Pater Brown with Josef Meinrad in the title role.

Lindt, who had resettled in Freiburg after his return from Hollywood, was married to Lotte Walter (1903–1970), the daughter of Bruno Walters , and was buried at her side near Lugano .
