Iriao

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iriao (Georgian: ირიაო) is a jazz and ethno-folk music group from Georgia . The name of the band is borrowed from the "Juchzer" (Iriao-uruao), which is used as onomatopoeia in Krimantschuli , the Georgian yodelling.

The seven-person group was founded in 2013 by Dawit Malasonia. He is considered to be the first to combine jazz with Georgian ethno-folk. Malasonia lives in Germany, where he writes music for TV, theater and other projects.

Internationally, the band made its first appearance at the 2014 “Borneo Jazz Festival” in Malaysia. The group was selected to represent Georgia for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon . They were eliminated in the second semifinals. The song For You was chosen internally.
