Diana Gurzkaia ( Georgian დიანა ღურწკაია ; Russian Диана Гудаевна Гурцкая ; born July 2, 1979 in Sukhumi , Abkhazia ASSR ) is a Georgian - Russian singer.

Life

In 1989 Gurzkaia, who was blind from birth, appeared on stage for the first time in the Philharmonie in Tbilisi . In 1995 she won the Yalta-Moscow-Transit international festival of young singers . She later attended the Gnessin Music School in Moscow ( Russia ) and completed a vocal training there, which she completed in 1999.

On March 1st, 2008 Gurzkaia won the national preliminary decision of Georgia with 39.4 percent of the votes and was allowed to represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade ( Serbia ). There she took part with her song Peace Will Come in the second semifinals on May 22nd and qualified fifth for the finals on May 24th. She reached 11th place out of 25 participants with a total of 83 points.

In 2007 she was awarded the Russian Artist Prize by Russian President Vladimir Putin and a Medal of Honor by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili . She also received the St. Barbara Prize in Ukraine .

Diana Gurzkaia has sung and published duets with Ray Charles , Toto Cutugno and Demis Roussos . Gurzkaia lives in Moscow.
