Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Mahr (born November 28, 1890 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 1944 or 1945 ) was a German graphic artist and wood cutter.

From 1914 Mahr studied at the Academy for Graphic Art and Book Industry in Leipzig under Hermann Delitsch. He was wounded three times during the First World War . After returning home, he resumed his studies in Leipzig from January 7, 1919 to February 28, 1920 with Hermann Delitsch, Georg Belwe and Hugo Steiner-Prag . After 1920 he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main with Ludwig Enders and Richard Throll .

After graduating, he worked as a book illustrator, mostly with the Erich Matthes publishing house in Leipzig. In 1924 he was commissioned by Matthes to illustrate the work of Arthur de Gobineau's “The Renaissance”. In 1925 he illustrated the works of Hans Sachs : “The farmer in purgatory”, “The struggle between woman poverty and woman happiness”, “The grocer's basket”, “The rider addicted to gambling” and “Eulenspiegel and the blind”.

In addition to his freelance work, he worked for a type foundry in Frankfurt.

From 1933 to 1945 Mahr published numerous woodcuts for the series "Ewiges Deutschland". He participated in the Great German Art Exhibition in 1937 with the woodcut "Three Hessian Farmers" and in 1943 with "Ulrich von Hutten".

In 1935 he was appointed director of the Berlin Higher Graphic Technical School as the successor to Georg Trump . From 1937 he was director of the municipal school for graphic arts and taught woodcut.

The date and place of Mahr's death remain unclear. According to some sources, it fell in Berlin on April 24, 1945, according to others, it fell in Russia in 1944.

His older brother Georg Mahr (born May 1, 1889, † July 8, 1967) became a sculptor and writer.
