Karl Matthäus Schmidt (born January 12, 1969 ) has been CEO of Quirin Bank since 2006 .

Life path

Karl Matthäus Schmidt was born into the sixth generation of a Bavarian banking family; his father is Karl Gerhard Schmidt .

After attending a Waldorf school , he completed several internships in Germany and abroad, including in Luxembourg, while studying business administration at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , and worked at the chair for banking and stock exchange.

On June 13, 1994, Karl Matthäus Schmidt and his colleagues founded the Consors Discount Broker as a branch of Schmidtbank . She was the first operational online - brokers in Germany. In 1998 Consors was converted into a GmbH and then into a stock corporation .

His business success was reflected in a number of awards. A year before Consors went public, the trade journal Euro am Sonntag awarded the young banker the Euro'98 prize for the first functional Internet offer for the securities transactions of private investors. 1999 gave Wirtschaftswoche him the title of Entrepreneur of the Year and a year later he was named horizon with the horizon award for Man of the Year .

In 2001 the bank looked after 450,000 customer accounts and expanded into Switzerland , France , Italy and Spain .

After the sinking of the Schmidtbank and the takeover by a rescue company of the big banks, Consors was put up for sale. Until then, SchmidtBank held 65 percent of the shares in the online broker as the main shareholder.

In the summer of 2005, Schmidt was appointed spokesman for the management board of the Berlin CCB Bank AG . Shortly before, Setis Bank , which provides outsourcing services as a transaction bank, was integrated into Consors Capital Bank and the company was renamed CCB Bank. There he directed the merger process between the two banks and developed concepts for the private customer business of the newly formed financial institution, which has been trading as Quirin Bank since May 2006 and is Germany's first fee-based advisory bank .

In October 2006 Schmidt received the National Leadership Award from the Economic Forum Germany . He is also a member of the Munich Finance Forum .

Other activities

Schmidt is a member of the jury for “ Top 100 ”, an award for the most innovative medium-sized German companies.
